First Fish For the Young Fernie!

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

“We just wanted to share some photos with you. We truly enjoyed having Floyd come join us for breakfast in the mornings, especially my young son Christian.
And the reason for our stay, the fishing, was the highlight of the trip, as Christian caught his very first fish. He still talks about it!

Thank you again for a fantastic stay.

Canoeing Down the Warren River

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

It was a gathering of family and good friends for a canoe trip from Clover Cottage down the meandering Warren River for several hours and still be back at the farm in time for the West Coast Eagles first final game.

Although the river is running well there were challenges in lots of places with rocks, rapids and bushes to challenge the adventurers

Canoeing on the Warren River is best late winter and early spring, just after the rains.   Fishing is always a pleasant pastime with redfin perch lurking in the shadows all year round.  Trout  and  freshwater cobbler are also trawling the waters!

Fishing and Friends in the South West

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

It was a gathering of old mates at Clover Cottage for a boys weekend of good wine, good food, good laughs and, of course, some serious fishing!  Well known local musician Rod Vervest with his very good friends Geoff and Frances  were tutored by Francis on the fine points of fly fishing. The fly fishing tuition was very impressive!  Geoff landed  rainbow, kissed it and let it travel on it’s way!

Water Water Every Where!

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Our Balbarrup  trophy fishing lake is is brimming with water!!!  So not only are the farmers smiling with all this rain, but am sure the Rainbow and Brown trout are doing somersaults  and back flips in the water too!

These proud parents also were enjoying the huge expanse of water and were teaching their children how to dive for all the food that seems in abundance.

With the season turning soon to  spring the trout will be coming to life again with the warmer weather and beging

Clover Cottage’s exclusive fly fishing lake will be teeming with all types of life and ready to lure the fly fisherman to try his luck with a brown or rainbow.  Available just to our guests, fly fisherman can book the lake for half day or full day fishing and enjoy the privacy of having your own trout stocked lake.  Catch and release only applies.  Contact  Paul for further information and cost.

A Family Holiday in the Country

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

Although winter time can be a bit wet and chilly, a family holiday down in the country holds lots of memorable experiences and time to spend together!  Our guests, the  Van  De Ploeg  family  enjoyed the experiences on offer at Clover Cottage.   “We loved staying at your cottages!” said Jess, “And have some photos to share.”

Floyd, our Golden Retriever is always a favourite host to everyone.  Ashton and Annika ensured he got a cuddle everyday.

One of the highlights of a holiday is a spot of fishing, which is even better when you land a fish or two!

Everyone in the family was pleased with the catch of the day.  The best part was fishing for it in  Clover Cottage lakes, even though it was a bit chilly in  the morning and evenings.  But, this is the best time to fish!

The  limestone cottages verandahs  is not only a relaxing place to watch your family fish on the lakes, but it is also a star attraction for the many wrens and other little forest birds.  Igor captured on camera a beautiful l female wren.  This is a once off delightful photo!!

Good Bye to Our Goat Walter

It was a very sad day on last Friday.  Our dear pet goat Walter passed away after a short  illness.  Walter was always ready to nibble the guests fingers, clothing or anything that was in his reach!

Vernon will miss his old mate Walter!  RIP Walter.

Hear from our guests

We arrived Friday ready to relax and take it all in, but of course, Angus wanted to go straight for a fish and the lucky bugger got one after 20 minutes of fishing!! HE was a nice one too. Had him for dinner – hot smoked, simply divine!

We enjoyed our stay at Clover Cottage for the second time. It is one of the most beautiful corners of the earth. It exceeded all our expectations once again. The animals have multiplied ( the sheep have anyway)…..

Once again, thank you we will definitely continue to return.
